Brooke Shields is playing a ruthless yuppie type in “Diamond Trap” (with Howard Hesseman), and she says hopes it will be a turning point for her. “I’m extremely ambitious,” Shields, who didn’t do much acting while pursuing degree at Princeton, says in Us magazine. “I used to take my career lightly. It was such a game. Not now. Now it is much more a way of life for me.” There are indications that Brooke is ready to pull away from her perpetual stage mother, Teri Shields. “She wants to break out on her own,” Teri says, “which is fine. I’m happy for it. The worst thing is when we disagree about business. I’ve seen people come up and make her a proposal that is essentially a con job and she thinks she’s cool enough to handle it. She’s not, bless her heart, but she backs off.”
