‘Beach Party’

Share

I would like to thank The Times editorial staff for your recognition of all those who make the Los Angeles County beaches the premier recreational spot during the summer (“Beach Party,” editorial, Sept. 7). Traditionally county lifeguards save 8,000 to 12,000 lives each year and work closely with city and county police beach patrols and maintenance crews to continue to insure that the millions of visitors to the beach each year have a safe and pleasurable time on the sand and in the surf.

The record of the 700 county lifeguards who patrol our beaches is unparalleled yet often goes unnoticed. The dedication of these men and women and that of County Supervisor Deane Dana, who has made safe and clean beaches one of his highest priorities, continues to make the beach one of the most popular, economical and safest of Southern California’s recreational attractions.
