Grocers removed a foul-smelling fruit juice drink from the shelves of all 54 Boys Markets in Southern California after a consumer complained about the beverage’s odor at an Inglewood outlet, authorities said Friday.
Boys Market Inc. President Peter J. Sodini said the grocery chain was conducting independent tests to discover the cause of the smell in Juice Bear drinks.
On Thursday, a shopper who purchased the juice-flavored beverage from a Boys Market at 11202 Crenshaw Blvd. complained about a “strange odor” in the drink, made in Canada by Palmer Manufacturing of Missassauga, Ontario, Sodini said in a prepared statement. The company then pulled the product from the shelves in all stores, he said.
The drink’s manufacturer was also conducting tests to determine the cause of the odor, Sodini said.
