Petitions Submitted to Oust 4 on Moorpark School Board

Two minutes before the 5 p.m. deadline Friday, a citizens group turned in petitions to recall four members of the Moorpark Unified School District board.
“We were rushing around collecting signatures today,” said Irene Barrera, co-chairwoman of the Moorpark Recall Committee. “I’m so happy and grateful to the people who signed.”
The Ventura County clerk’s office has 30 days to certify that the group collected the signatures of 2,423 registered Moorpark voters for each of the four board members: Tom Baldwin, Patty Waters, Lynda Kira and Carla Robertson.
The board’s fifth member, Cynthia Hubbard-Dow, is not a target of the recall.
If the clerk certifies the signatures, the school district then has two weeks to call for an election within 88 to 125 days.
Barrera, whose group has been collecting signatures since June, said the recall effort began because the board planned to sell a 69-year-old high school to apartment developers. However, the board is now planning to lease the school, Barrera said.
