Just Call Athletes the Ugly Americans
I was relieved to see the article (Sept. 18) about the insensitivity shown by U.S. athletes in the Summer Olympics’ opening ceremony. I thought I was the only one embarrassed by the arrogance and grandstanding exhibited by our Olympic team.
Our nation’s “best” confirmed the stereotype that most Americans are pushy, self-centered egotists who will stop at nothing to get their face above the crowd.
I hope the U.S. Olympic Committee will get tough with our athletes and admonish them to leave their banners and Mickey Mouse caps at home.
