Rush-hour traffic on the eastbound Simi Valley Freeway was snarled for three hours Monday after a collision left one man dead and two others injured.
The 4:20 p.m. accident occurred on the San Fernando Road on-ramp near Pacoima when the brakes of a truck driven by Abel Duran, 27, of Sylmar, failed, said Officer Shirley Gaines of the California Highway Patrol. Duran, who was driving down the off-ramp, swerved into traffic on the freeway’s on-ramp and collided with a truck driven by a 32-year-old Sylmar man.
The man, whose name was not released pending notification of family, died at the scene, Gaines said.
Duran and his passenger, Rodrigo Gonzalez, 24, of Pacoima were taken to Pacifica Hospital in Sun Valley, where they were treated and released.
The on-ramp, which was closed after the accident, was reopened shortly before 7:30 p.m.
No one was cited in the incident.
