Three Haitian security officers armed with M-16 rifles pushed their way onto an American Airlines jetliner in Port-au-Prince, but the trio surrendered their weapons to the crew shortly after takeoff and the plane flew on to New York without further incident, officials said. The captain of Flight 658, which had 233 people aboard, radioed air traffic controllers after takeoff that the men had given up their weapons. He asked that the incident be handled as a regular flight rather than as a hijacking. The three were taken into custody by FBI agents and police upon arrival at John F. Kennedy International Airport.
