Simi Valley’s Dinger Skids to Saugus Win
Saugus Speedway on Saturday evening looked more like the Ventura Freeway on Friday afternoon as 66 stock cars skidded around the watered-down, -mile paved oval for the season’s third and final 150-lap Factory Stock Enduro.
After two 75-lap heats--one counterclockwise, the second clockwise--Scott Dinger of Simi Valley had successfully maneuvered through heavy traffic, finishing far ahead of Gary Nazaroff of Covina before 2,910 spectators.
Dinger, who pocketed $2,000 for the win, assumed the lead from Steve Schattilly of Whittier midway through the first heat, which was halted three times by red flags.
Yellow flags were discarded in favor of two “official jam cars,” which roamed the track with extended steel bumpers, separating entangled vehicles.
