Edwards Medical Devices & Systems said it plans to eliminate 100 of the 400 workers at its Irvine headquarters and scale back research and development in an effort to boost profits. Don Rohrbaugh, general manager of the maker of electronic medical equipment, said all employees affected by the cutback were notified that their jobs will be phased out by the year-end. He said at least 20 will be transferred to other Edwards divisions in Orange County.
