Local News in Brief : Asbestos Clean-Up Report Ordered
- Share via
The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday ordered officials to report on how to clean up 20 county buildings in which dangerous levels of asbestos were discovered.
Supervisor Kenneth Hahn, who proposed the study, also told officials to search the tight county budget for the $400,000 that county facility managers say would be needed to remove the asbestos. “This is a small figure compared to the county’s potential liability if we are sued by employees who suffer from damage to their health caused by asbestos in their workplaces,” Hahn said in a resolution asking for the study.
Hahn also called for an asbestos search in all county buildings.
On Tuesday, The Times disclosed the existence of the asbestos in buildings inspected last spring in a state study of the safety of public facilities.
