Buena Park Mall has undergone four phases of change since it was originally developed in 1961 as an open mall with May Co., Sears and 50 other retailers as tenants. After City Freeholds (USA) aquired it in 1976, it was enclosed, the basement space converted to a lower mall of 50 retail stores, a 30,000-square foot theatre complex added, and a 75-foot high glass tower built as the mall’s main entrance. Today, its taxable retail sales are the seventh highest of the county’s malls and it is the fourth largest in square feet.
