David Robinson, the San Antonio Spurs’ top draft pick in 1987, will ask the Navy for an early release from his 2-year commitment, Robinson’s father told the San Antonio Light.
Sources quoted by the newspaper said the 7-foot 1-inch center could be in a Spur uniform as early as the Nov. 5 opener against the Lakers.
After playing on the U.S. Olympic team, Robinson has returned to his civil engineering billet with the Navy at Kings Bay, Ga.
