Daloma, ridden by apprentice Fernando Valenzuela, broke the turf course record by one-fifth of a second Thursday as she won the $60,000 feature race by 3 lengths at Santa Anita’s Oak Tree meeting. Daloma covered the mile in 1:34 3/5, beating the record of 1:34 4/5 set April 10 by Steinlen, under Gary Stevens.
Sent off the favorite by her backers in the crowd of 16,733, Daloma paid $10.40, $4 and $3.40. The French bred 4-year-old filly earned $33,000.
Bayakoa, under Aaron Gryder, finished second, 3 1/2 lengths in front of Miss Alto, with Eddie Delahoussaye. Bayakoa returned $3.40 and $3.20; Miss Alto paid $4.20.
