Effects of a Bicycle-Pedestrian Path Proposed at Aliso Creek Golf Course
With respect for and appreciation of the many wonderful recreation areas that Orange County supervisors and the Parks and Harbor Commission have created, any further plans to put a bicycle-pedestrian path along Aliso Creek Golf Course must be stopped.
Such a plan is not feasible. The course would be unplayable. Ben Brown’s Aliso Creek Golf is the only course in Laguna. The plan should stop at the southeast perimeter of the golf course. Bicyclists and pedestrians can backtrack. Thousands of people have enjoyed Aliso Creek Golf Course at Ben Brown’s for decades. Hundreds of signatures attest to the disapproval of this planned 14-foot-wide path with its high fence to protect users.
Aliso Canyon is a haven for wildlife. Deer, rabbits and small hill creatures enjoy the solitude of the canyon. Quail coveys appear in the growth by the eighth tee. Mallards, in passage, stop for refreshment. The tall fence would prohibit the hill creatures access to the area.
The path would diminish the parking lot and destroy the practice range and putting green, the changing rooms, toilet facilities and snack shop. It would cross over tees on the fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth holes.
Orange County supervisors have the power to stop this plan.
