Orchestra Plans 4 Concerts for Coming Season

The Chamber Orchestra of the South Bay, resident orchestra at the Norris Theatre in Rolling Hills Estates, will present four concerts at the Norris and one at the Hermosa Beach Civic Theatre during its 1988-89 season, with music ranging from Bach to Barber.

The season begins Nov. 20 at 8 p.m. at the Norris with Charles Fierro, head of the Cal State Northridge piano department, as soloist in Beethoven’s second piano concerto. New this season will be 7 p.m. concert previews by Robert Miller, the orchestra’s president and program annotator.

Other concerts in the season are Jan. 29, when David Weiss, principal oboist of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, plays Bach’s oboe concerto; March 5, with Ronald Leonard, principal cellist of the philharmonic, in Haydn’s D-major cello concerto, and April 28 in Hermosa Beach and April 29 at the Norris, with soprano Angelique Burzynski as soloist. The soprano, who will sing this season with the Los Angeles Music Center Opera, will perform operatic arias and selections from Broadway musicals.
