A Tale of Two Trips

I recently returned from a safari in Kenya and Tanzania. Thanks to a mention in Sharon Dirlam’s “Tours & Cruises” (May 1) I went with an absolutely superb company, Wildlife Safari. It was comparable to Abercrombie & Kent in every aspect--the same excellent vehicles, the best lodges (Serenas), driver-guides who were marvels as naturalists and in the fine art of tracking down game-viewing.
My parents went on a Kenya/Tanzania safari last summer with Abercrombie & Kent, using an almost identical itinerary. Much to their dismay they were bumped from their first-class lodges and moved into second- and third-class accommodations--no fewer than three times and without any cost adjustment. They did spend a night at the Mt. Kenya Safari Club, but for it they paid almost $2,000 more than I did with Wildlife Safari.
Many thanks for turning up Wildlife. You can contact the firm at 23 Orinda Way, Orinda, Calif. 94563, or call (800) 526-3637 in California, (800) 221-8118 out of state.
