Local News in Brief : Electrical Fire Blamed for Cable TV Outage

Share

It wasn’t rain but it did the job. An explosion in an underground electrical transformer vault in Glendale interrupted the playoff game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the New York Mets for several thousand fans in Glendale, La Canada and La Crescenta on Sunday night.

But an employee at the Glendale Power Company said no homes were without power.

Fire from the 6:30 p.m. explosion was out by the time Glendale Fire Department units arrived at the underground vault substation at Glenoaks Boulevard and Geneva Street. The spokesman said, however, that the explosion may have affected Sammons Communications, a cable television company that serves the Glendale area.

Angry fans jammed the phone lines to complain and Sammons could not be reached for comment. Sgt. Peter Michael of the Glendale Police Department said he had received a few calls--all of them from people complaining that their cable service was out.
