Atlanta-based Coca-Cola Co. named Ira C. Herbert president of its flagship division, Coca-Cola USA, in a move aimed at increasing its advertising firepower in the cola wars. Herbert, executive vice president of the parent company, will replace Edwin R. Mellett as president of both Coca-Cola USA and the company’s North America Business Sector. Mellett, a senior vice president of Coca-Cola Co., will take over the new job of president of international post-mix sales, where he will be in charge of fountain sales outside the United States.
