Recent gang activity in Fresno was blamed by Fresno District Fair officals for a decline in attendance. Although no gang-related incidents had been reported at the fair itself, fair board member Brian Tatarian said it “appears gang activity in Fresno in the recent past is making people reluctant to come out and enjoy the fair.” Police said several weeks ago that five stabbings and several beatings at a free rock concert in the downtown Fulton Mall were the result of gang unrest. Attendance at the fair for the first six days was down 31,000 from last year.
