The Australian Film Institute handed out its annual film awards--affectionately known as the “Ozcars”--in Sydney on Tuesday. “The Navigator,” directed by Vincent Ward and produced by John Maynard, won the best film prize and five other major awards, while “The Lighthorsemen” copped two awards. Maynard, director Bill Bennett (whose film “Jilted” also won an Ozcar), two other Australian film industry heavyweights and veteran film marketer Gordon Weaver are all part of The Movie Partners, an American-Australian production and development company based here, in New York and in Sydney, which was launched with much fanfare last month.
