Macmillan Inc. reported a third-quarter loss of $1.05 million, contrasted with a profit of $43.3 million a year ago. Sales grew 6% to $340.7 million. The New York-based publisher blamed non-recurring charges connected with the reorganization of of its Educational Publishing Group, including the closure of its Scribner Laidlaw unit. Chairman Edward P. Evans noted that operating income during the quarter dropped to $71.2 million from $78.6 million in the year-ago quarter.
