Hot weather has slowed trout fishing in all but the colder Sierra locations, and largemouth bass have also become inactive, leaving catfish as the prime attraction at most reservoirs.
The catfish bite at Lake Piru’s north end has picked up dramatically in recent days, according to a spokesman at the Ventura County reservoir.
Dale Palmer of Fillmore caught a 22-pound catfish and E.K. Lear of Sunland landed an 18-pounder.
