$3,710 Donated to Hawthorne Foundation

A grant of $3,710.52 has been received by the Hawthorne Parks and Recreation Foundation, said Dick Miller, foundation president. The money was donated to the foundation by the South Bay Junior All-American Football Conference, which disbanded in February. The money is from the Richard (Dick) Huhn Fund. Huhn is one of the founders and officers of the conference.

The money will be used to rebuild Sherman Lodge at the Hawthorne Youth Camp. Miller said the lodge is a multipurpose building used by the city of Hawthorne and the Hawthorne Elementary School District. The foundation recently received a report from the director of parks and recreation that because of continued erosion around the lodge, it would probably have to be abandoned and replaced within the next three to five years.
