BURNABY, British Columbia — Canada defeated Guatemala, 3-2, in World Cup soccer qualifying action Saturday, but Guatemala will advance to the next round because of a complicated goals differential rule to break ties.
Canada edged Guatemala, 3-2, but lost the home-and-home series, 1-0, last weekend at Guatemala City. Guatemala advanced because away goals count double if the series is tied.
Dale Mitchell scored twice for Canada.
