Ford Motor Co. announced plans today for a $1.27-billion car engine plant in Wales that will create at least 3,000 jobs in the economically depressed area.

The investment, Ford’s biggest yet in Britain and the largest ever in a motor engine plant, was unveiled at Britain’s International Motor Show in this industrial city. The plant at Bridgend, south Wales, is part of Ford’s plans to renew its European model range in the 1990s and is expected to be in operation by the summer of 1991, the company said in a statement.
