FAA Orders Takeoff Alarm Tests

The Federal Aviation Administration today ordered immediate tests of takeoff alarm systems on nearly 2,000 Boeing 727 and Boeing 737 jetliners after finding “a significant number” of the alarms not working properly.

The takeoff alarms are a critical safety device because they warn pilots if they have improperly set instruments or control devices during takeoff. The FAA told the airlines that they must conduct the tests immediately and continue the checks every 200 flight-hours to protect against possible failure.
