Santa Monica : Agreement on Aquarium

Share

The city has signed an agreement with Underwater World Corp. for the development of a $15- to $20-million aquarium that will display marine life from a “diver’s eye” perspective.

The aquarium will feature acrylic tunnels installed on the floor of a 1.5-million-gallon tank, providing a 180-degree view of Southern California ocean life. The aquarium will be the first of its kind in the United States, according to Erik Pederson, president of the Underwater World Corp. The project is patterned after Kelly Tarlton’s Underwater World in Auckland, New Zealand. It is expected to be completed in the summer of 1990.
