The House joined the Senate in threatening a renewal of military aid to the Nicaraguan Contras unless the Sandinista government in Managua observes Central American peace accords. The action came as the House, by voice vote, sent President Reagan a Forest Service measure that included an amendment carrying the warning on Contra aid. Though Congress has been strongly opposed to new military aid, the bill says a Sandinista failure to comply with peace accords “will inevitably cause the Congress to approve additional military assistance for the Nicaraguan resistance.”
