Chile’s Cabinet ministers formally handed in their resignations to President Augusto Pinochet to allow him to reorganize his government after his defeat earlier this month in a plebiscite on military rule, officials said. Government spokesman Orlando Poblete announced the resignations of the 16 ministers along with their deputy ministers. A government source said Pinochet will reshuffle his ministers under a new Cabinet leader capable of negotiating with the opposition. The 72-year-old general, who seized power in a 1973 coup, lost the Oct. 5 presidential plebiscite, 55% to 43%.
