A man required 30 stitches after being attacked by a kangaroo at a popular camping area. “I believe it was capable of killing,” the victim said Saturday.

Shaun Fitzpatrick, 36, said the kangaroo pounced on him Friday while he was feeding bread to about five of the marsupials at Grampians National Park in Victoria.

A witness with a videocamera filmed the attack, which appeared unprovoked.

The gray male kangaroo jumped at Fitzpatrick and kicked and clawed him. The animal scratched Fitzpatrick’s face and caused a groin wound that required stitches.

Fitzpatrick’s four children, brother, sister-in-law, and a cousin visiting from England were with him but fled to their car when the attack began.
