UNITED NATIONS — Iran and Iraq will resume their peace talks in Geneva on Monday, Secretary General Javier Perez de Cuellar announced today. He said he will take part in the talks with Foreign Ministers Ali Akbar Velayati of Iran and Tarik Aziz of Iraq.
The secretary general expects to remain in Geneva for four or five days, and a special representative is to stay on to continue the talks. U.N.-mediated talks aimed at implementing a Gulf peace resolution adopted by the Security Council opened in Geneva on Aug. 25. The negotiations adjourned Sept. 13 and were resumed briefly in New York on Oct. 1, but with few signs of progress.
