A 30-year-old Garden Grove man has been arrested in connection with the murder of a pregnant woman who was found slain in her home 4 weeks ago, police said Tuesday.

Arthur Richard Perez was arrested Friday and was being held in Orange County Jail on suspicion of murdering 28-year-old Vicki Mesa, Garden Grove Police Sgt. Harlen Hanson said.

Mesa, who was 5 or 6 months pregnant with her first child, was found stabbed to death in her home in the 10700 block of Mallard Drive in Garden Grove on Sept. 30.

Perez was acquainted with Mesa and her husband, Michael, because they had attended Bolsa Grande High School together, Hanson said.

Perez first became a suspect when he went to Fountain Valley Medical Center the day of the murder to receive treatment for injuries to his hands, Hanson said. Police had notified county clinics and hospitals that a man involved in the attack may have been injured and might seek medical care.

Homicide investigators arrested Perez at his home in the 10600 block of Morningside Avenue about 11:45 p.m. Friday. Investigators would not discuss a possible motive for the slaying but said evidence linked with other information led to the arrest.
