Tosco Corp.’s third-quarter profit nearly tripled from a year ago to $30.4 million, even as revenue fell 3% to $310 million. The Santa Monica independent oil refiner attributed the gain largely to improved margins and high operating rates at its Avon, Calif., refinery.
