Local News in Brief : College Board OKs High School Plan

Share

The trustees of the Los Angeles Community College District on Wednesday unanimously approved plans to start a high school on the campus of Southwest Community College to encourage minority students to go to college. The idea needs a green light from the proposed co-sponsor, the Los Angeles Unified School District.

If all goes as planned, the South Los Angeles school will open in September with 100 students and grow to no more than 480 within three years. The Middle College High School is modeled after one at a community college in New York that has had great success in preventing students from dropping out.
