The Seibu Lions won their third straight Japan Series championship when Tsutomu Itoh’s run-scoring single with two out in the bottom of the 11th inning gave them a 7-6 victory over the Chunichi Dragons at Tokyo.
The Lions won the best-of-7 series, 4-1, to claim their fifth Japan championship since they became the Seibu Lions in 1978.
