John Candy is “Uncle Buck” in writer-director John Hughes’ next screen foray. The film finds Candy caught between a young professional couple and their three kids--ages 5 to 15. There will also be a romantic interest for the capacious actor in the Universal production, which goes before the cameras in January in Chicago for producer Tom Jacobson . . . . Brian Dennehy headlines Orion’s “Street Legal,” a thriller about cops who “cross the line,” which films locally in December. John Mackenzie directs the George Armitage-Jere Cunningham screenplay for producer John Davis.

“Great Balls of Fire”--its actor Alec Baldwin cast as Jerry Lee Lewis’ charismatic cousin Jimmy Swaggart opposite Dennis Quaid as Jerry Lee. Filming starts in Memphis this week . . . . Priscilla Barnes plays a marine scientist who discovers an underwater alien in New Horizon’s “Lords of the Deep,” filming locally in next month for producer Roger Corman. Mary Ann Fisher directs the yarn, which co-stars Bradford Dillman as an unscrupulous industrialist and Daryl Haney--who wrote the screenplay--as a project engineer.
