An Anaheim man who had been drinking heavily died early Sunday in a struggle with two friends who wanted to call it a night and take him home, authorities said.
Daniel G. Sampson, 38, fought with two friends who tried to force him into a car, then fell backward to the ground and fractured his skull, Santa Ana Police Cpl. Henry Haynes said.
Sampson was rushed to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana, where he was declared dead on arrival, Haynes said. An autopsy was scheduled for today, but Haynes said police are treating the death as an accident.
Sampson and two friends had left a bar in the 2100 block of East Edinger Avenue shortly before 2 a.m., police said. Sampson wanted to go to another bar. The fight began when his two friends said they wanted to take him home.
