The driver of a power boat killed when his craft flipped at 90 m.p.h. during a race on Mission Bay was identified Sunday as Melvin Champlin, 59, of Las Vegas
He was pinned beneath his boat for about 30 seconds Saturday before rescuers could reach him. Champlin suffered extensive head injuries, even though he was wearing a helmet.
