The trial of 20 defendants, including two relatives of former Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser, in connection with terrorist attacks on Israeli and U.S. diplomats opened in Cairo but was quickly adjourned until today. The most prominent defendants--a son and a nephew of Nasser, Egypt’s first president, were absent. Both left Egypt before the indictments were announced in February. The charges stem from four attacks between 1984-1987 in which two Israeli envoys were killed and eight Americans and Israelis were wounded.
