William Robinson Jr.--the Motown singer-songwriter-executive better known as “Smokey”--is a busier man than usual these days. On Wednesday, Robinson received the Founders Award from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers--the licensing organization’s highest honor, marking lifetime achievement--at a reception at Chasen’s in Beverly Hills. Then Robinson will segue--in a few weeks, actually, on Nov. 30--to a benefit tribute in his honor at the Beverly Hilton hotel. Motown Records founder Berry Gordy Jr. and pop mogul Dick Clark will co-chair the event, the proceeds of which go to benefit the Retinitis Pigmentosa International foundation.
