‘Buried Issues’ in the Presidential Race

I’ve observed Sen. Bob Dole (R-Kan.) on several TV discussion programs and I am now convinced that Dukakis has a secret supporter. I’ve seldom seen a person so totally uncomfortable as Dole appears to be when he is asked to defend the type of campaign Bush and Dan Quayle are waging. As a loyal Republican the best he can do is maintain that distortions and half-truths are OK as long as they work.
I admire Dole and cringe along with him as he is forced to uphold a policy and candidates that he obviously doesn’t agree with.
