The American Museum of the Moving Image (AMMI), devoted to film and television, has opened in a 1920 studio building at 35th Avenue and 36th Street in Astoria, Queens. The building is part of the Kaufman-Astoria Studios.

Seven years in the development, the three-story, $15-million, 50,000-square-foot museum houses a 190-seat theater, a 60-seat experimental video screening room, a gallery for changing exhibits, a cafe and expresso bar and a museum shop.

The museum’s collection consists of 60,000 artifacts: scenery, costumes, scripts, photographs, posters, fan magazines and technical equipment.
