Share

A security guard who drove his pickup truck through a line of picketers at the Mobil Oil Refinery in Torrance, injuring two men, was sentenced Monday to nine months in County Jail.

Torrance Superior Court Judge Hiroshi Fujisaki imposed the sentence on Onna Brown, 21, who was convicted last month on two counts of assault with a deadly weapon.

Imposition of the sentence will be delayed until Dec. 19, when Fujisaki will rule whether Brown will be permitted to work during the day and return to county jail at night and on weekends. Brown, who is employed by a private security firm, no longer works at the refinery.

Deputy Dist. Atty. Patricia Flanigan had recommended that Brown be sentenced to two years in state prison, while defense attorney James Foster asked for probation.

Brown was working for a private security firm hired by the refinery when he drove through picketers from the Oil, Chemical and Atomic Workers Union on March 15, injuring Evert Jenkins and Juan Canizales. Both have recovered, although Canizales is still undergoing physical therapy.
