Shipwrecked Sailor Dies Just Before Help Arrives
A fisherman survived several days in the Gulf of Mexico with two companions after their boat capsized, only to become delirious and swim to his death half an hour before rescuers arrived. A Coast Guard helicopter Sunday found the body of Granvelle Bryant, captain of the Miss Vanessa, about 27 miles off Boca Grande, Petty Officer Dan Sutyak said. Bryant was two miles from where his two companions had been rescued Saturday by a passing boat.
The girlfriend of one of the survivors said the three Ft. Myers men floated in the Gulf for at least four days, clinging to a large cooler.
