Convicted child sex abuser Ned Bruen was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole Monday.

“You have a man here whose aberration does not fit the rest of his career,” defense attorney Gary Wood said of the former Bay Area bank executive. “We’re going to pursue the appeal. This is a case that could go to the Supreme Court.”

Bruen was convicted Aug. 1 of sexual assault, possession of child pornography, attempted sexual assault, lewdness with a minor under 14 and using a minor in child pornography.

Minden District Judge Michael Fondi, who heard the case without a jury, said in passing sentence, “I’m satisfied that justice is being served. The sentence imposed will result in the defendant serving at least 10 years in prison.”

Bruen, a former assistant vice president of the North Berkeley Wells Fargo Bank office, was convicted of assaulting a youth he met in a Bay-Area Big Brothers program from the time the boy was 8 until he was 15. Bruen is free on $250,000 bail pending appeal.
