Washington rallied for 25 second-half points and John McCallum kicked a 25-yard field goal with 2 seconds left to give the Huskies a 28-27 Pacific 10 victory over California Saturday at Seattle.

Washington Coach Don James became the winningest coach in Pac-10 history with 71 victories. He had been tied with former USC coach John McKay going into the game.

Washington trailed 14-0 after the first quarter and 24-3 at halftime.

But the Huskies rallied--Greg Lewis scored on runs of 16 and 1 yards and Aaron Jenkins scored on a 9-yard run--to get within 27-25 with 4:20 to go.

Washington (6-4, 3-4) drove 49 yards in 9 plays and 1:58 to position McCallum, a junior from Seattle, for his second field goal of the day.

California (5-5, 1-5) got a school-record 55-yard field goal from Keen as time ran out at the end of the first half.

Arizona 41, Oregon 27--Reggie McGill’s 9-yard touchdown run capped an 87-yard drive as the Wildcats held off a strong Oregon rally to defeat the Ducks at Tucson and earn a share of third place in the Pac-10.

Arizona took advantage of four Oregon mistakes in the first half, in addition to blocking a punt and partially blocking an Oregon field goal attempt, for a 27-3 halftime lead.

But Terry Obee caught touchdowns of 54 and 17 yards from quarterback Pete Nelson as Oregon closed to within 27-20 with 11:08 remaining in the game.

Then McGill’s second score of the night, with 5:31 remaining, put the game away. David Eldridge’s 9-yard run with 39 seconds remaining put the Wildcats ahead 41-20, but Obee caught a 16-yard touchdown pass from backup quarterback Bob Brothers with 13 seconds left for the final score.

Washington State (7-3, 4-3) will likely face Houston in the Aloha Bowl. Oregon State fell to 3-6-1 and 1-5-1.

Broussard carried 21 times for 134 yards and a touchdown, bringing his season total to 1,077 yards. Swinton gained 108 yards in 28 carries, scoring on an 11-yard run and a 14-yard pass from Timm Rosenbach in the second quarter.
