Five major newspapers will collaborate for the first time to produce a magazine starting in October with a combined circulation of more than 6 million. The Los Angeles Times, New York Times, Washington Post, Chicago Tribune and Boston Globe will separately publish the Good Health Magazine with content independently created by each newspaper. The magazines will share the same title and logo. Advertisers will be able to place ads in all five magazines at a 10% discount--a marketing plan called the “Five-Star Buy”--or they can buy ads in individual magazines at regular rates. The Five-Star Buy is an experiment developed by the American Newspaper Publishers Assn., which is studying ways to increase newspaper advertising.
