Ramsay Quits as Pacers Coach
Jack Ramsay, the second winningest coach in the NBA, has resigned as head coach of the Indiana Pacers, winless in seven starts this season, the Pacers announced this morning.
“It was a resignation by mutual decision of Jack and the club,” said Pacers’ spokesman Dale Ratermann. He said assistant coaches Mel Daniels and Dave Twardzik will coach the team’s next two games, the Los Angeles Clippers on Friday and the Sacramento Kings on Saturday. Ramsay had 864 victories coming into this season, second only to Boston’s Red Auerbach’s 938 on the NBA all-time win list. Ramsay won the NBA championship with the Portland Trail Blazers in 1977.
