LILLY’S LOVE LIFE

Share

Re: Your review of Peter Fiebleman’s “Lilly” by William Wright (Book Review, Oct. 9). Wright believes that Lillian Hellman needs to be saved from champions such as Peter Fiebleman. I don’t know about that, as I found his book funny, delightful and touching, unlike my response to Wright’s review, which I found age-ist and sexist and tasteless, with his curiousity about Hellman’s sexual success.

I suspect that Hellman’s sexual success with any number of men (obviously not including Wright) had to do with her enjoying sex, aggressively going after what she wanted and being a fascinating and fun person to be with--all things documented in any number of books about her.

Wright allegedly raises this issue on behalf of the women of America who, he states, would surely have appreciated a secret or two. What a gross projection, since it is obvious that it is Wright who wants to know the secret.
