Hussein Orders Son to Be Tried in Aide’s Slaying
Iraqi President Saddam Hussein today ordered his eldest son, Uday, to be tried for the murder of a presidential aide.
The aide was killed on Oct. 18 after being hit once with a stick. Hussein said today in a radio message that his son tried to commit suicide the day the aide, Kamel Hanna Jajjo, died. Hussein said Uday was jailed on Oct. 21 and made two more unsuccessful attempts to kill himself in prison.
Hussein, describing accounts of the killing, said the aide was drunk and firing his pistol and rifle repeatedly in the air at a social gathering. He said his son hit the aide on the head with a stick when he did not obey an order to stop firing.
